How to: Windows on SoYouStart 4790k
This is something I've had people ask me before and message me about, how do you get Windows on an MC-32. The Kimsufi templates don't appear to have the ethernet driver in them, and I have tried to do this over KVM IP on a MC-32 as well and Windows by default doesn't have this.
There is an easy way to get Windows 8.1 Pro on one of these machines for free. First, visit https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj612867(v=ws.11).aspx and find the Windows 8.1 Pro KMS product key, it's at the top of the "Windows Server 2012 R2 and Windows 8.1" table. This is 100% legal and that is a Microsoft website, keep in mind Windows will remain unactivated and put a watermark in the corner of your screen.
Copy the KMS activation key for 8.1 Pro, then log into your SoYouStart Manager and click on Licenses
Then in the left hand side of the screen click on "Add an SPLA license" and select your server from the dropdown list, then for version type select "OS Windows SPLA license" from the bottom of the list, then paste the KMS product key for 8.1 Pro you got from the microsoft technet website listed above, then click on "Confirm", and then "Back to the dashboard", it has been added to the list.
Now go back to the server page and click on "reinstall", in the OS list under "Select your template" scroll all the way down to the bottom and select "Windows Client 8.1 PRO 64bits (InstallV2) (64bits)", then press next, on the next screen at the bottom you will see a checkbox that says "Use your windows SPLA license", tick the check box and click on "Confirm". Note that if you do not click the checkbox the install will fail as windows needs a product key to continue, and the KMS technet product key will get the windows install finished, it won't activate it however.
Now wait for around an hour or 2, you then will recieve an email from OVH with the user account details to login to. I would recommend uninstalling CopSSH when you login as that been linked to some vulnerabilities in the past with people being able to login with a "default password", then changing your Windows password.

Need advice on shared hosting
I need a shared host but not necessarily low end. In fact, a big and established firm will be better.
I want something easy to use, no problems, no management, set-up and forget type.. ~10 domains will be hosted, domains were purchased already. 4-5 of them will be just brochure sites, others will be low traffic Wordpress blogs, may be a forum etc.
Cpanel (or a similar management panel) is a must. So dreamhost is not an option. ipage is very cheap (2 $ if paid 3-yearly) but reviews say ihost's quality is very low, very high page load times etc.
Any recommendations?

KVM Fremont / San Jose
I am looking for providers offering services out of fremont, san jose or san francisco...
KVM, 1GB RAM, 1-2 TB bw (shared Gbps), ~20 GB HDD ... it's to be used as VPN, so I am looking for routing via telia from europe, as I can see e.g. with do or linode.
both offer the desired for around $10 p.m. - interested if someone can do that for less or if there are other providers I've missed?
(I've also seen atlantic.net, same price but routing is cogentco, more hops and also latency is worse... also not interested in LA this adds at least 18ms on top)

Quick Question
I am trying out a VDedi from SpeedyKVM and I am trying to install a 64 bit guest on virtual box but I only see 32 bit options. I was under the impression, possibly incorrectly, KVM hosts would have virtualization available?
I don't see any settings for such in the Solus panel for it. Am I SOL or missing something simple?

Ipv6 connnectivity

I just created a new vps in solusvm and installed centos , also added ipv6 but the ip is not pinging from outside , Its pinging from the localhost without any issues . I have tried all available fixes/checks
any sysconf issue?? thinking.

Amazon EC2 / Linode alternatives?
Is there a (cheaper) alternative to Amazon EC2 / Linode which satisfies these conditions:
1) VMs can be created / deleted / cloned / stopped / started through an API
2) Docker is supported in the VM (rules out OVZ based services)
3) x86 architecture
Currently I am using dedis which I manage (cheapest solution). I am trying to figure out the cost of a contingency plan (i.e. if managing becomes too demanding). The only feasible option I have found is Scaleway (3 euros/month for 2GB KVM). I want to know what (if) other options are available.

cPanel server overload
Hi,
My cPanel server have some problem. I am not sure why this problem occur after harddisk replacement (due to failing ssd drive). I will try to explain my situation.
Before harddisk replacement, server is just working fine without any problem. Server have around 900 cPanel users in 2 harddrive (120GB SSD and 1TB SATA) in 50% of user home data is in 120GB SSD and 50% the rest is in 1TB
Then before perform harddisk replacement (120GB SSD) for safety, I rearrange all account to 1TB SATA then replace failed 120GB
After replacement, server is performing badly. As long as server is running php with user (suphp, php-fpm, mod_ruid2), server load is going higher than 100 but it is working fine when switch to php run as nobody (cgi)
I suspect that the problem is all 900 cPanel users data are in 1TB which will cause this problem?
Will it work if I add another drive and rearrange 50-60% account of 1TB to new disk? or I need to upgrade CPU?
What is your recommendation?
